olivetti ms 25 plus

this particular model is about 100$ and avaible on the royal website
i am not sure what i will need to purchase but assume i should stock up on regular black ribbons from office depot
Almost all manual typewriters use half-inch-wide ribbons
Your local office supply store may also have ribbons for manual typewriters, and it may have ribbons intended for printing calculators which will work just as well.

Mr. Typewriter (mostly postwar machines). Another source for reconditioned typewriters is Blue Moon Camera. You can also try your luck on eBay; my list below is linked to current eBay auctions. (Be patient and hold out for a machine in good condition. It will probably cost you $50-$100.)

Usually a basket shift is easier and more comfortable, especially for us pampered computer users who aren't used to exercising our pinkies.)
• Hermes: a lot of people swear by their Swiss engineering. The Hermes 3000 is a popular model, which looks like a 1950s design but really is from the 1960s.
• Olympia: if you prefer German engineering over Swiss, try these. Like the Hermes, they are usually postwar machines. The portables and office machines are both good. The big SG and SM series are traditional favorites of writers (see below).
• Alpina: a postwar portable recommended highly by portable expert Will Davis. Easier to find on German eBay, and normally has a German QWERTZ keyboard.
